Dr. Maria S. Hernandez grew up in Chicago's Roscoe Village. She is a proud graduate of Lane Technical High School and received her medical degree from the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Rockford. She then went on to complete a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Upon completion of residency, she fulfilled her goal of returning to Chicago to practice medicine
It was while she was a hospitalist at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center that she was exposed to Dr. Chua's passion for GI and his tireless devotion to his patients. She soon joined his practice and has become an integral part of the team since then. Her leadership skills and hard work have lead to her recent appointment of Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Hernandez is committed to serving her community and is dedicated to providing compassionate, high quality care. Her special interests include liver diseases and Hepatitis C. She is fluent in Spanish and Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
